IUSD Granted AAPHD Charter

Honolulu – The Board of Directors of the American Association of Public Health Dentistry (AAPHD) at the ADA Annual Session on Oct. 3 granted IUSD a charter for a student chapter, only the second awarded in the country. Access to care by various groups including developmentally-disabled adults will be a focus of the 66 enrolled students, according to Karen Yoder, PhD, MSD, the chapter’s faculty mentor. “This is a new emphasis to involve dental students more directly in public health,” said Yoder. “The chapter will be developing and implementing community-based programs consistent with public health initiatives."
