COURSE 1 – Spring

FRIDAY, APRIL 13, 2018 ENDED

8:00 am – 4:00 pm
Peter Jacobsen, PhD, DDS
Drugs, Bugs and Dental Products; What to Prescribe! and
Live Long and Prosper; Lifestyle Medicine in Dentistry
The Willows on Westfield – Indianapolis, IN

Course Description

Morning Course: With all the talk of abuse, addiction and overdoses this session is incredibly timely. It is a review of the oral medicine of dentistry, antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal drugs, pain medication, the management of aphthous ulcers and fever blisters, and the oral medicine and prophylactic protocols that center around drugs. Essentially, the presentation will focus on decision making relative to dental pharmacology and oral medicine. The information is pertinent and a practical update for all practitioners. It is also of interest to dental hygienists, since they often see and understand the various oral problems that occur, but they are never provided a good perspective on the drug choices available and the elements of the decision making process, relative to drug selection. Each Attendee will receive a Little Dental Drug Booklet by Dr. Jacobson

Afternoon Course: The afternoon is lighter, more philosophical and more personal, as well as professional and interesting. It focuses on the many dimensions of personal health that we all need to be concerned about for ourselves and our patients. It includes nutrition and exercise, a listing of lab tests that are appropriate for all of us at various stages in life. It includes the concepts of genetic testing and genomics and its impact on medicine and dentistry. It will also include the concept of longevity drugs and how happiness and social connections impact human longevity.

Course Learning Objectives

  • Review of current information on oral medicine, pharmacology, pain management
  • Develop a decision making relative to dental pharmacology and oral medicine
  • Understanding of healthy lifestyle throughout all the stages of life and connections with both medicine and dentistry
  • Learn concepts and impacts of genetic testing, genomics on medical and dental relationships of patients
