An educational outreach program of the Indiana Dental Association

Hoosiers’ oral health is a primary concern of the Indiana Dental Association. Collectively, our 2,800 dentists across the state feel there is a crisis in tooth decay and acid erosion of teeth, especially in children, teens and young adults. IDA member dentists hope to reverse this growing trend and save a generation from significant dental decay.

The IDA actively supports community water fluoridation, early prevention for Hoosier infants and children through its program “Born to Smile,” and this “Drinks Destroy Teeth” educational campaign. Knowledge of the permanent and destructive effects of sports drinks, soft drinks and sweetened juices is the first important step in helping Hoosiers making wise choices. Dentists know prevention begins with education, and it works.

Your dentist wants each generation to enjoy better oral health than the generation before. However, unless we intervene and STOP the increasing consumption of sport drinks, soft drinks and sugary acidic drinks, this generation of young people will experience more decay and eventual tooth loss than their parents. Stop decay! Stop Erosion! Keep your teeth healthy for a lifetime!
