2013 Indiana General Assembly Adjourns


The General Assembly adjourned Saturday, April 27 after passing the state budget. IDA supported SEA 590, the Omnibus Dental Practice Act Bill, is headed to the Governor's office for signature.  

Indiana DDS nears $11 million in donated services


Within the next few months, Indiana Donated Dental Services (DDS) is expected to reach a milestone of $11 million in donated services since its inception in 1991. In the last fiscal year, more than 600 volunteer dentists and 180 laboratories provided $1.1 million in dental treatment.

Dental Practice Act bill clears Senate Committee


Senate Bill 590, the IDA-supported bill that proposes multiple changes to the Dental Practice Act, passed out of the Senate Health and Provider Services Committee unanimously Wednesday, February 13. The bill now moves forward to be debated on the Senate floor.

IUSD revamps its Give Kids a Smile program


“Give Kids a Smile” (GKAS) is a widely recognized national program that enables community members and dentists to offer free dental services to many underserved children. The program was adopted by the ADA in 2003 and has since served thousands of children's dental health needs.

Non-covered services bill passes Indiana Senate


The bill that would prohibit Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) from setting fees for dental services not covered in their policies has passed through the Indiana Senate and is awaiting a House committee hearing. Senate Bill 208 (SB 208), passed and will now proceed to the Indiana House.

Health Affordable Care Act impacts tax returns


The health insurance landscape is changing, and it's critical to be informed and prepared. A 50% health care tax credit, effective January 1, 2014, is only allowed to be claimed in two consecutive years. There are other phase-out measures within the Affordable Care Act language and the IRS guidelines.

The American Dental Association (ADA) has introduced the ADA® Dental Symptom Checker™ on to provide patients with accurate information about their oral health symptoms and help them make better-informed decisions about their oral health.

IDA publication transition nears completion


As part of an effort to make member communications more effective, the Editorial Board and Council on Communications has now merged the printed newsletter into the printed Journal and IDA website, effective the December issue of the newsletter.

'Contact dentists' sought for new legislators


Now that Election Day has passed, it is time to engage your representatives in the Statehouse. As the Indiana State Legislature welcomes 28 new faces in the upcoming legislative session, the time for IDA members to reach out on behalf of dentistry is now.

IDA outlines legislative package for 2013


The IDA will pursue a number of legislative changes based on charges from the IDA House of Delegates. We have outlined a summary of the initiatives, for which we will need every member's voice and support in the 2013 Indiana General Assembly.
