The IDA Editorial Board and Council on Communications are transitioning printed newsletter content to the printed Journal and IDA website this fall. The 2012 House of Delegates approved the merge at its meeting in June, following a yearlong membership survey by the Council on Communications.
The IDA introduced Dr. John Roberts, a general dentist from Connersville, Ind., as its new president at the 2012 meeting of the House of Delegates. Dr. Roberts has served in various IDA leadership roles, and recently presented his vision and goals for the coming year.
More than 1,500 Indiana Dental Association dentists and dental staff are sinking their teeth into downtown Indianapolis at their annual conference this weekend at the Hyatt Regency Indianapolis. The event provides dentists with continuing education, special events and chances to connect with colleagues.
Delegates and alternates to the upcoming House of Delegates will need to bring their calculators, as much focus will be on the proposed 2012-2013 budget and the Board of Trustees’ recommended dues increase. The House will also debate 20 recommended changes to the Indiana Dental Practice Act.
What additional education is required for assistants and hygienists to administer anesthesia, caries prevention, polishing and X-rays? Dental team members must complete educational or testing requirements to perform certain delegated duties.
Assignment of Benefits legislation is necessary. With assignment of benefits, the insurance company can deal directly with the health care provider if there is a question or a dispute over the patient’s treatment.
The Indiana Dental Association recently received $26,200 in two grants from the American Dental Association for new membership outreach programs: The Indiana AIR Leadership Program and “Dental Divas” program for women dentists.
The IDA Council on Communications recently released a series of online tutorial videos to help familiarize members with basic features of the Association’s website. The short video clips describe the steps for some key online member services, such as searching the membership directory.
More than 75 fourth-year students at the Indiana University School of Dentistry committed to membership in organized dentistry as part of the Indiana Dental Association’s annual “Signing Day.” The event provided an opportunity to sign up for membership in the IDA.
President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) on March 23, 2010. Two years have passed, and there is still much work to do to determine the practical implications of the 2,400-page law.
